Sriracha Glazed Chicken

New recipe! Sriracha Glazed Chicken

Food. It’s the only way you’ll get me to attend a sporting event. Tailgating? Sure, I’ll be there as long as someone has some 7 layer dip. I’ll even wear a hat if there are brownies. Baseball game? Only if I can have a hot dog with mustard & onions, a bag of peanuts and a chocolate malt. Hockey? I dunno. Never been! What kind of food do they serve? I’ll buy us tickets as long as they have churros.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

The Super Bowl is this weekend. Oh boy. The Super Bowl is all about FOOD, if you ask me.  Well that and commercials and halftime shows that involve Madonna and/or Beyonce. What to bring to a Super Bowl Party??? How about Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza, Homemade Soft Pretzels, Sticky Balsamic Ribs, Sausage Jalapeno Hushpuppies or Pizza Waffles?  Or what about these super easy spicy/sweet Sriracha Glazed Chicken wings & drumsticks?

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

If you’re looking for me during the big game, you’ll find me hiding in my bedroom reading my kindle.  Chances are, I took your big plate of cookies with me. Lemme know when the halftime show is on!

And we’re off! This recipe is a SNAP. It’s not super spicy so if you’re scared, DON’T BE.

You can always add more sriracha after the fact.

Question: How many people are going to send me an article about the Sriracha factory closing down?

The answer is. I stocked up…like…it’s even in our Earthquake (knock on wood) kit.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

First we make our marinade. Sometimes I think it’s funny that there’s only a one letter difference between marinade and marinate. These are the things that (don’t) keep me up at night.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

Mix it all together and marinate! We let the wings & drumsticks sit in the sauce for about 30 mins.

Make sure you toss them around as to evenly distribute the marinade.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

Get the oven cranking. We’re ready to bake.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

Half way through, we flip and if you want a crispy top, flip again at the last 5 minutes.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

HELLO.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

We need a garnish. Chop up two green onions.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

You fancy!

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

The sauce is incredible. Sweet, sour, salty. All good things.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

I made this chicken with rice because HELLO SAUCE.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

Rice. Extra Sriracha. Sauce. Lime garnish.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken // shutterbean

Get over here, YOU.

And if you’re looking for some really good BAKED hot wings, check out these bad boys.

Sriracha Glazed Chicken

recipe slightly adapted  from Everyday Food Magazine (sniff sniff)

serves 3-4

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 2 lbs. chicken wings/drumsticks
  • 2 chopped green onions (both white & green parts)

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, white vinegar, Sriracha, sugar, grated ginger and toasted sesame oil.  Pour marinade into a glass or enamel baking dish and toss with the chicken.  Marinate for 30 minutes, tossing halfway through. Preheat oven to 375F. Bake until chicken is cooked through and sauce thickens, 30 minutes, flipping chicken halfway through. Serve with sprinkled green onions on top.

Hey, did you hear about the Srirachia factory closing down??

Hehe, sorry – it was begging me to say that.

These look good, and Super Bowl or no Super Bowl (British), I will be making these this weekend!

  • stephanie @ iamafoodblog

We should have a Sriracha Bowl! You in?

  • Maryea {happy healthy mama}

Forget the Super Bowl….these look like dinner to me.

  • Christina @ Scaredy Cat Kitchen

I am so with you there Tracy, for me the only reason to go to a football (soccer if you must) game is the hot chocolate and kitkat at half time and whenever I’m in the US a basketball game is all about beer and prezels. Is it obvious we’re not sports fans??

  • Kelly Mitchem

Sriracha glazed anything is right up my alley! I might have to turn this into a delicious vegetarian meal. Excellent looking dish šŸ™‚

  • Todd @ HonestlyYUM

The first thing I thought when I saw these is that they need a song. Like, the song you sing when you’re eating them while you do a happy dance. Yea, that kinda song. Or, maybe it’s just a song that plays omnisciently each time you take a bite. All that being said, I’m with you. While everyone else is watching the Superbowl, I’m gonna be hunched over in the corner, snickering behind the table with a beer and a plate full of sauce and spent chicken bones. Can’t wait!!

  • Sarah

Where is your baking dish from?

  • jaime @laviejaime

so making these for super bowl sunday- yum!

  • Cindy

The only reason to attend a sports game for me is to eat and drank and purposefully mix-up sporting vernacular to drive the dudes around me nuts…cause a girl’s gotta have some fun, right?
And, with this, I now need some chicken wings in my life ASAP-ish.

  • Meira

Hm…making chicken breast tonight. Might be a good idea for a glaze. Will try it out… Thanks Tracy!

  • Angela

Holy crap these look amazing! Trying them next week!

  • Kate

This just inspired me to change my super bowl potluck contribution from sliders to this (totally easier sounding) delicious wing concoction!

Quick question- (sorry if this is dumb…) In the recipe- is white vinegar the same thing as white wine vinegar?

    Gracias!

    • Tracy

Nope. White vinegar doesn’t have wine in it. It’s the kind of vinegar that you would use for cleaning & pickling.

  • Kelsey

Ahhh, I am still so sad over Everyday Food! Have you found any magazines to fill the hole in your heart? I had just barely discovered the magazine when it stopped being published.

    • Tracy

I’ve been really impressed with Bon Appetit–but you know how much I love simple recipes. Sometimes they’re a little involved and require ingredients I’ll only need for that one recipe. Rachael Ray’s magazing is pretty good too. I get ideas from that often.

      • Jennifer

I love Donna Hay. It’s an Australian magazine but I subscribe on my tablet. Great simple recipes. The only thing is it is summer there now and they are talking about posicicles and it is a wind chill of -2 degrees here on the East Coast. So jealous!

        • Tracy

I love Donna Hay- but I find that some of the recipes are so simple that they lack flavor šŸ™

  • Emily @ Life on Food

I have to go to a Super Bowl potluck. I think I just found what I am bringing. This looks amazing!

  • Lizy Tish

Agreed – it’s ALL about the food (and the commercials). I will be knitting or reading…. These wings look GREAT! I was looking for something new and different to make for watching the commercials and these are a strong contender!

  • Adrianna from A Cozy Kitchen

I have chicken in the fridge from my leftover wings I just posted and I think I’m gonna make this right now! AHH! I have all of the ingredients. Excited!

  • Ann

Ha, I just bought my first bottle of sriracha sauce but haven’t tried it yet. Maybe I should go out and buy another bottle, in case I really like it and can’t get it any more! These morsels look really tasty and a good reason to crack open the bottle!

  • Kate @ Ā”Hola! JalapeƱo

These sound really tasty. My husband and I were just discussing yesterday at lunch when the first time we ate Sriracha wasā€”this is the exciting type of conversations we have. šŸ™‚

  • mary beth

Crisis averted and the plant is not being shut down! Like you thought the public would really let that happen?Your chicky looks amazing šŸ™‚

  • Heather Christo

I feel the same way about tailgating. Unless of course the Seahawks are going to the Superbowl, then I am kind of into it. This looks awesome. My hubby and little brother freaking love sirarcha and they would die for these. Amazing pictures by the way.

  • Cortney

This looks delicious and I’m eager to try. The amount of ginger is missing from the ingredients list. I can improvise, but how much did you use?

    • Tracy

rut roh! I’m so sorry. That’s what I get for late night typing!! I added it to the recipe. Thank you for catching that.

  • Becky

I can smell these through your pictures! Rachael Ray had a similar crockpot recipe in Everyday this month. We tried them last week and they are great; perfect for setting up on Sunday morning so you can focus on lots of other game day snacks while they cook themselves!

  • Stacey

Every few weeks I go through this phase where I plan every meal on whether or not I can use it as a vehicle for Sriracha. I bleed that stuff. This is definitely going to be happening for supper tonight! You’re the best, Bean.

  • Jen

Thank you for the recipe. As soon as I read it, I scrapped the plans I already had and made this for dinner tonight. It was delicious although I had a problem with the liquid burning but that was probably because I was using a dark metal dish. I don’t have glass or enamel. But still yummy!

  • SpillOverCoffee.com

Hi Tracy! I love chicken! I would definitely try this one. Thanks for the recipe! Please check out my site http://spillovercoffee.com.

This was amazing. Super easy to put together and tastes great. Everyone loved it.

  • Emily

made these tonight, and my parents absolutely loved them! (picky eaters). the sauce was soooo good

  • Heidi - Apples Under My Bed

Yarm!! Nothing better than sticky sauce over rice. Yes, I’m more excited about the sauce & rice than the chicken. Happy Super Bowl day! To me, it totally makes sense that it’s all about the food. Your bowl will be super delicious, no? Super bowl.

    Hey Tracy,
I have been a huge fan of your blog since I heard you on the podcast with Joy (who I’ve followed for years). I am a huge cooking nerd and love experimenting in the kitchen. When I saw this recipe I immediately forwarded it to my boyfriend who LOVES Sriracha. My plan was for me to make it the following weekend. But, someone (aka my bf) took the inspiration into his own hands to make it for an appetizer to my superbowl meal of pulled pork & cabbage salad. He was very proud of himself as was my tummy. I am going to continue to forward your posts to him. šŸ™‚
    Meg
P.S.~great leftovers to bring to work!

  • Shana

I am making these today for the Walking Dead premiere (my husband’s version of the Superbowl) it seemed appropriate to rip chicken wings limb for limb while watching the zombies do the same :S

I was just tossing them in marinade and my husband came downstairs and asked “what smells so good??” so we can’t wait for dinner!

  • Helen @ Scrummy Lane

This looks amazing … and so simple! Love the photo fourth up!

  • Grace Lau

This was mighty, mighty yums. I added a touch more sriracha sauce and it just nailed it. My husband and friends are heat seekers so the recipe’s call for 1 tablespoon wasn’t enough. I went with half a bottle =). My husband ate through half a loaf of bread mopping up the sauce. Thanks for an awesome yet so simple recipe. This will definitely be a staple in my home!

  • Stephanie

YOU NAILED THIS. New staple recipe for me. My tummy is in greaaat gratitude.

  • Amberlee

SO, this had been on my “to cook” list for awhile, mostly because I had to talk Mr. Mister into giving it a shot. He was afraid it would be too spicy. I love, love, loved it (when I expected). Here’s the kicker, he loved it too! I just love how crispy the skin gets and the glaze is great to drizzle over brown rice. Yum, thanks! So…when are you going to write a cookbook? I’d definitely buy it. šŸ™‚ Thanks, Tracy!

Very excited to make this recipe. I’m wondering if it’s meant to be cooked at 375 though?

Totally just made this and some stir fried noodles and veggies and it’s going to be lunch at work for the next few days. Tested by having it for dinner and I am defo going to be excited about lunch for the next few days! Nothing better than looking forward to tasty goodness in the middle of a long day!

Also, man I love an easy recipe that involves mixing stuff, throwing some meat in it, sticking it in the oven.

Also also, have just moved back to Scotland and was wondering what to do about sriracha and where to get it. Not to worry – my local Tesco Express has it just kicking about! So many reason to stay here forever….

  • Donna

Made this tonight. Awesome!! Easy, flavorful and satisfying. Had rice on the side for the juice…lol. served with a veggie and it was definitely dinner!
