Last year I went on a turmeric tea kick (thanks, Heidi!). You can see the base for it in this Turmeric Toddy recipe. I had a cup of the non boozy version every afternoon for a month straight. This year I tried the Turmeric Latte from Nutrition Stripped and was instantly hooked.
Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory power spice. When it’s paired with warm almond milk, coconut oil, honey, and cinnamon, pure magic happens. For the past three weeks I’ve been enjoying a cup in the afternoon when I’m feeling particularly crunchy/tired and in need of something sweet. The fat from the coconut oil helps satisfy me until dinner- something I thought was absolutely impossible.
Let’s gather our ingredients.
If you follow me on snapchat (tshutterbean), you’ve already seen that I have these ingredients at my desk at work!
When I’m at home, I steam the almond milk with coconut oil. It makes it frothy and delicious. Alternately, you can put it in a saucepan over the stove and whisk it.
Cinnamon/Honey/Turmeric/Salt
Stir it all in.
You can play around with your ingredients too. Sometimes I grate ginger in there or add a little bit of ground ginger. It creates a nice spicy vibe.
Also, if you want to make your own almond milk, check out my recipe!
Don’t forget to add a little bit of salt. I think it balances out the sweet quite nicely.
Bring on the bright yellow/orange hue.
Look at that golden milk.
Now it’s time for me to write my third TO DO list of the day.
At least I can do it with a Turmeric Latte!
makes 1 drink
recipe adapted from Nutrition Stripped
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla almond milk
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- small pinch kosher salt
Mix almond milk and coconut oil in a small saucepan and simmer over the stove until warmed through, about 6-8 minutes. Whisk in honey, turmeric, cinnamon and salt. Stir until mixture is frothy and serve. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
Alternately, if you have an espresso machine, steam the almond milk & coconut oil together until frothy. Stir in turmeric, cinnamon and salt.
