This Cranberry Ginger Shrub is a real treat if you’re looking for a mocktail situation this holiday season or if you’re entering the new year alcohol free!
How would I describe it? You know those jars of concentrated bouillon paste? Think that for this shrub concentrate but change the flavor profile to that of kombucha. Take a spoonful and mix it with sparkling water and you’ll think you’re drinking cranberry kombucha.
(I hope you also like kombucha)
Mix it with ginger ale (or better yet, cranberry ginger ale!) and you’ll be shocked there’s no alcohol in it. You can feel part of the party with your own drink!
Ingredients involved:
Cook it all down.
Strain it!
Serve it!
I use about an ounce or two in a drink.
It’s great with bubbly water.
I served it at my friend’s house for our wreath-making party!
We had fresh orange juice, cranberry ginger ale, and sparkling water to mix it with.
Toppings included citrus and raspberries. Cranberries next time!
If you want something to drink at happy hour without the booze, I think you’ll enjoy this one!
If you want to imbibe, gin or vodka would work well with it too.
It’s a great way to use up that bag of cranberries you’ve got in the fridge!
makes 8-10 servings
recipe adapted from Country Living
- 1 (14-oz.) bag cranberries
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- ¾ cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 (2-inch) piece peeled and sliced fresh ginger
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- Ice and club soda, for serving
Combine cranberries, apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, ginger, and cinnamon sticks in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer until berries start to break down, 10 to 15 minutes; cool completely. Strain liquid through a fine wire- mesh strainer, mashing mixture to release liquid; discard solids and chill. To serve, pour 1 oz. over ice and top with club soda or ginger ale.
