How to Work Your Way Out of a Food Rut

Do you need to figure out How to Work Your Way out of a Food Rut? Tracy Benjamin shows you how. See some creative ways to shake things up on Shutterbean.com!

I have been through several food ruts in the past year (hello, grief!) and I thought I’d write a post that will help me when I need help again.  See also Keeping Creativity Alive.

OK, here we go.

Hello, Tracy. I’m glad you’re here.  Here is:

How to Work Your Way Out of a Food Rut.

First, you must interview yourself. Ask yourself the following questions.

How do you know you’re in a food rut?

and

Why are you in a food rut?

Right now, you know when you’re in a food rut when food isn’t exciting.

You’ve been eating the same thing, you’ve lost your ooomph in the kitchen and have no idea what to cook/eat.

YOU ARE BORED WITH FOOD and the pace of the internet and this idea of making NEW! EXCITING! GROUNDBREAKING! recipes can take the fun out of eating/cooking. The kitchen needs cleaning (AGAIN) when you cook and sometimes you just can’t add that to your plate after working all day (sometimes in the kitchen).  Having to feed two other people who have different tastebuds/likes/dislikes can feel uninspiring.  When you’re trying to be healthy and good food choices, it can be so difficult.

How do you work your way out of a food rut?

MAKE CHANGES!

Remember what your Mom always used to say:

Shock your system by making something new.

Intentions for the Week:

Looking to get your head in the game? Tracy from Shutterbean makes a weekly TO DO LIST called her Intentions for the Week. Here's what this week looks like:

Happy Monday, friends!

We are on the 11th week of 2019. Let’s get into it. I just typed 2018. I really thought I would be over that by now!  This weekend I had time with friends, we had my brother in law spend the night and my family came over for dinner last night. The weekend blew by so fast, I’m wishing for one more day. We were supposed to be away for baseball but the weather got in the way, so it was nice to have so many impromptu adventures in the weekend.  Plus, having company over made us clean the house at warped speed together and for that I am grateful!

Oh! And while I have your attention, here’s a quick reminder that I’m teaching a food photography/food styling workshop in Santa Fe in May! There are a couple of spots left if you’re interested!   Check out more info here.

Sunday Meal prep will help us make some healthy lunches things week. Here’s what I made after I cleaned out my fridge yesterday:

Currently: February 2019

Currently February 2019 on Shutterbean.com

Currently February 2019

Boy am I glad February is over!  It was kind of a rough month here.  At the beginning of the month, I was waiting to hear back results from a breast biopsy + MRI (BENIGN!) and I tried really hard to not let worry consume me. The last time I had to get an MRI, my Mom was with me and so this whole month was such a weird experience. This second Valentine’s Day without my Mom (who always made the day pretty special for us) was a bit bittersweet. Grief hit hard and the cold weather and being stuck inside while it’s raining didn’t help. Season Affective Disorder in full swing here!

March is here and I am looking forward to spring. My garden starts popping and I can’t wait to see it transform after all the effort I put in this winter.  I’m also excited to do some spring cleaning and start thinking about life outdoors soon.

Here’s my February spread from my Currently Workbook:

And here’s what happened this month!

I can’t wait to see what this workbook is going to look like by the end of the year.

Let’s get into February.

Intentions for the Week:

Looking to get your head in the game? Tracy from Shutterbean makes a weekly TO DO LIST called her Intentions for the Week. Here's what this week looks like:

Happy Monday, friends!

We are the 10th week of 2019. It’s the first full week of March too. Wahoo!  The light is changing in the mornings out here in California. Are you feeling it where you are too?  Friendly reminder that we’re going to lose an hour with daylight savings this weekend. Spring is on its way around here!   I’m looking forward to March although Mercury will be in retrograde for most of it so it should be a wildly (annoying) time!  I mean it is, if you believe in that sort of thing. Which I do….

Over the weekend we had basketball and we did a bunch of work. We got to see my Dad and I was able to do some meal prep for the week!

I cleaned out the fridge like I always do on Sundays and this is what I came up with:

Shutterbean Meal Prep #shutterbeanmealprep by Tracy Benjamin
