Last year I started my first little garden in our backyard. You can see the progress here here and here! We had tomatoes in this trough last year, so when I read that you aren’t supposed to plant tomatoes in the same place the following year I decided to make this section into an herb garden. I am pretty excited about it. I have big plans for the rest of the yard because it’s totally easy for me to go overboard on this stuff. It’s soo gratifying to grow your own veggies & herbs and I want to plant MORE AND MORE!
Here’s an overview of what’s in the trough that we got a few years ago at a Feed store in Half Moon Bay.
I separated the sweet basil a few days ago because Iwas totally overcrowding it!
I am also growing some arugula, dill, cilantro, purple basil and a few wildflowers from seed in there.
To the right, I have a little container of oregano growing. My neighbor gave me some of her cuttings!
To the left of the trough, I bought some metal containers at IKEA, drilled holes in the bottoms and planted:
I had the strawberries in another section of the yard, but they got fried in the sun on the first day!
There’s also some flat leaf parsley & chives in this area. The spacing could be better but whatever. I’m lazy.
We have a huge bed waiting to be filled with tomato & pepper plants, but a tree has to be removed before we can proceed. Hopefully that will happen soon, as I am anxious to get more stuff planted!!! Wish me luck!
